“Special Meeting” Announcement - Appointment of 2 Open Director Seats
To Canebrake Community property owners and residents:
The Canebrake County Water District (CCWD) Board will be holding a Special Meeting Saturday January 25th from 9:00am to 9:30am at the Canebrake Community Center. The purpose of the meeting is to interview and potentially appoint two Directors to the remaining open seats on the CCWD Board of Directors.
For those who are interested, serving on the Board of Directors is a great way to serve and assist our community. The CCWD depends on the assistance of volunteers, including the Directors themselves. Volunteer service is absolutely essential for us to continue to operate as an independent water district.
Currently we have three elected Directors: Marsha Campbell, Daryl Holmes Jr., and Christopher MacDonald. An additional two Directors will need to be appointed (for a total of five). The criteria to be elected or appointed to the Board of Directors are as follows:
· You will be asked to serve as a Director for (at least) two years. Directors normally serve terms of 4 years, but in this case the open seats are for terms which expire November 2026.
· Board meetings are pre-scheduled on the second Saturday of the months of January, March, April, May, September and November. It is critical these meetings are attended by all Directors.
· An appointed or elected Director must either be a registered voter in the district (Canebrake Community) and/or a landowner within the district.
· These criteria are written in the CCWD By-Laws. You may find them at: https://canebrakewater.specialdistrict.org/files/19de03b73/Amended+BY-LAWS+6.10.2023.pdf
This Saturday’s meeting will be a public meeting with an open call for candidates. We especially encourage those who meet the criteria and seek to be appointed to the Board to join us in person at the Community Center. During the meeting we will ask qualified, interested candidates to raise their hands. Each candidate will have an opportunity to share their qualifications and why they would like to serve on the board.
If you are unable to attend but wish to be considered as a candidate you may send in a memo via the CCWD website, Canebrakewater.specialdistrict.org. Please go to “Contact Us” and share your contact information and leave a note of your desire to be considered for the Board. This memo needs to be submitted by Friday at 5pm January 24, 2025 for you to be considered as a candidate.
The current Directors will vote and candidates will be selected based on majority vote. If one or both seats are not filled we will continue on as a Board, however, our goal is to have a complete board prior to our next board meeting.
Once selected, appointed candidates will be sworn into office under oath based on the County of San Diego, State of California, and Federal laws.
We look forward to filling the current seat openings on the Board of Directors. We would be delighted for our neighbors and friends to work with us. The independence of our water district is very important to us. Sincere thanks from Marsha, Daryl, and Chris.
