Canebrake Alert: Safe Water Prep & Boiling Instructions (7/20/26)

Safe Water & Boiling Instructions (Boil Water Advisory in Effect)

CCWD is issuing a boil water advisory out of an abundance of caution. Although Monday's leak and today's repairs were very isolated and sanitary conditions were maintained, CCWD will have a water sample tested.  This advisory will remain in effect for approximately one week until water samples can be certified safe by the lab, at which point we will notify all customers again.

In the meantime, we recommend you follow these guidelines:

1. How to Boil Water Safely

  •  Bring to a Rolling Boil: Heat tap water in a pot until it reaches a full, rolling boil, and let it boil continuously for at least 1 full minute.
  •  Cool & Cover: Allow the water to cool naturally. Keep the pot covered while cooling to keep dust out.

2. Storing Boiled Water

  •  Containers: Store cooled water in clean, food-grade containers with tight-fitting lids (glass pitchers, stainless steel jugs, or water bottles).
  •  Location: Storing water in the refrigerator is best, but keeping it in a sealed container on the counter out of direct sunlight is also safe.
  •  Fixing "Flat" Taste: Boiling removes air from water, which can make it taste flat. To fix this, shake the sealed container or pour the water back and forth between two clean containers.

3. What to Use Boiled (or Bottled) Water For

  •  Drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and all food preparation.
  • Tap water is safe for: Showering or bathing (avoid swallowing water) and washing laundry.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. And a very big THANK YOU to our volunteers who have been on-site in the district and in the heat over the past two days.
